I remember my car was doing 90 on the highway. My eyes red and my teeth had been grinding. The roads were wet and my eyes were closed. The words I muttered that no one heard. I felt scared, but i felt free. The only passenger in the car was the cold empty silence and the quiet humming of the rain splatter on my wheel well. Pressed the gas just a little bit and opened my eyes. I remember pulling over my car and watching the aftermath of a light December downfall. The other vehicles sped by, leaving a mist in their wake. I caught my breath and pressed my hand to my chest to feel my physical heart for the first time in a long time. It felt shallow and but strong, how fitting. I remember defining this moment as to what life really feels like. I knew that from that day forward, I would strive to relish in these moments. I sat muted in my car on the side of the highway, feeling alive for the first time, in a long time. I was startled by screeching tires grinding against cold pavement and oncoming lights in my rear view mirror.
